Wharcliffe Works

Originally uploaded by Mathew Savage.

I must admit, at this point, that I’m not sure of the ettiquette of blogging other people’s work, so it’s my earnest hope that Matthew Savage doesn’t mind my beautifying this post with his shot of Wharcliffe Works.

This shot was taken on APX 100, and perhaps illustrates why there is such excitement over the possibility that Adox may introduce films based on the Agfa APX100 and 400 emulsions. More detail, and some input from Adox themselves can be found in this thread over at APUG (may require (free) registration).

Apparently Adox have bought the recipes and technical know how for the Agfa products.

Before Film…

…there were glass plates, on which S.M. Produkin-Gorskii set out to record the life of the Russian Empire.
The Online Photographer has an article today that gives an introduction to the man and his work. It’s fascinating because of Produkin-Gorskii’s achievements in the field of early colour photography, and the nature of his project, which documented Czarist Russia before its fall.

A direct link to the article in question is here.

Ilford on the Future of Film

River

Howard Hopwood, marketing director of Ilford Photo comments on the future of film in this press release.

(The picture isn’t a comment on the article, it’s there because it was shot on HP5+ and developed in Ilford chemistry).

Lausanne “Tous Photographes” Exhibition: Martin Parr Discussion

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

I first came across Martin Parr’s work through a comment someone made on one of my photographs last year (it’s a digital one, sorry). I have tried, occasionally and probably somewhat self-consciously, to incorporate some part of his aesthetic into what I do photographically, with varying degrees of success.

The discussion I’m about to give you the link for took place as part of the “Tous Photographes!/We are All Photographers Now!” exhibition in Lausanne. The show, and to some extent the discussion with Parr ponders the question of whether the “Digital Revolution” has blurred the distinction between amateur and professional, and the changing photographic landscape now that every mobile phone is also a camera.

The discussion is roughly an hour and a quarter long, and Parr is an engaging, witty speaker - well worth the download, I think.
